About the Event
Online meeting: 90-minute group meeting via zoom. We will have a naturalist/watersheds expert join us to talk about "Watersheds". We'll also have an award-winning artist and poet, Deborah Kennedy (read her bio here), share her art with the poetry! She will read a poem on watersheds, a poem on how everything is connected, share a centos book on plankton, and answer questions. Students will then write their own poems under the supervision of David Siller (bio here), a poet, editor and educator; and Dr. Jiang Pu (bio here), author, poet and Ed leader. If time allows, we will also analyze a few winning poems from previous years. We'll have separate zoom breakout sessions for students based on grade levels.
Optional: Students will finish and send their poems for individualized feedback by Nov 20, 2021. They will then revise their poems based on feedback.
Deadline for poetry/art submission to the art and poetry contest is Dec 1, 2021 (online submission).
Limited space. Please sign up now to secure your spot! *After you register, we'll send you a link to the zoom class. **Students will improve their writing skills and raise environmental awareness even if they choose not to attend the international contest. ***Since the lesson is only $20 and the website charges a fee for each transaction, it is non-refundable. Scholarships available for those in need--NO kid who loves poetry and art will be turned away at NextGen Education!
